Annual Community Health Fair

Held the second Saturday of March each year.  The community health fair is open to everyone and provides free health screenings for diabetes, hypertension, prostate cancer, peripheral circulation problems, vision, dental, sickle cell disease, heart disease, and much more.  We also provide onsite screening mammograms through the Lexington Women’s Imaging mobile mammography unit (insurance filed).  Uninsured/under insured women can obtain an application for a free mammogram through The Color Pink Project or Best Chance Network.  About 400-600 people participate in the Community Health Fair each year. We also provide a wide range of medical and health information booths with an average of 40 local and national health related businesses represented. Click here for booth information.

Wellness Center Weight Loss Challenge

This year-long weight loss project, which grew out of our existing walking club program, promotes healthy lifestyle changes.  Weekly speakers are provided on topics such as weight management, nutrition, lifestyle changes, body building, stress management, bone health, and much more.  We work in conjunction with the existing aerobics and weight training programs available at the Brookland Wellness Center.  The 75 members of the 2009 challenge collectively have lost more than 500 pounds and rank 23rd in total weight lost among over 2000 church teams registered on 50millionpounds.com.   For additional information please contact Noreen Doughty at The Brookland Health and Wellness Center at 803 744 7928.
